Dual SIM Card Phones? What is the strategy for operators/carriers
Over half of mobile phone owners in Europe have two or more phone subscriptions. Same is true of many advanced Asia-Pacific countries from Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore to Australia. So too in advanced parts of the Middle East from the UAE to Israel. In Russia more than half of phone owners have two or more phone subscriptions. Even laggard mobile telecoms markets like the USA are starting to see this, with about a quarter of American cellphone users having two accounts or more (think of a Blackberry user with a company phone, also having a private iPhone).

Netbooks, in-car, tablets, mobiles, what is next? I wonder if MeeGo will grow to be the third multi-form OS behind Google and presumably Apple?
This would be an actual UI paradigm shift for mobiles.

Nokia N900 software update release 1.2
By Rhiain on 25 May 2010
ESPOO, Finland – Attention Nokia N900 owners: there’s a new software update coming your way this week (UK release today, and global release tomorrow Wednesday, May 26). Version 1.2 comes offering a range of enhancements to the already bursting Maemo5 mobile computer. Join us after the jump to find out what’s in store.
First up – new games join the veritable arcade already on offer in Ovi Store. Jurassic 3D Rollercoaster, Zen-bound, Angry Birds (level pack), Sygic, Kroll, Weatherbug, and GoGadget are all available to keep you entertained. Important to note though that Ovi Store will do a full switchover this week Thursday, May 27, so these games and other for-purchase apps will show up then.
Next are the improvements to communication. Email has been improved with the ability to accept or decline an event invitation right there in your inbox, and Facebook IM chat has also been bundled in. The release also brings with it video calling, allowing users face-to-face chatting anywhere.
An additional update you will be pleased to hear about is portrait browsing on the internet is a-go on the N900. Ovi Maps also gets the update treatment with changes to the UI, improving the experience of finding your way around. And finally, there’s also a change to the menu system UI with the first level now customisable.
Moving away from the update and to look at MeeGo and the Nokia N900. Many of you have been asking whether the new MeeGo platform will be supported on the N900 once it’s device-ready. Although Nokia N900 devices are being used for platform development and testing purposes by those involved in the MeeGo project, we don’t have plans for a full scale commercial MeeGo upgrade on the Nokia N900. The reason? It’s really about ensuring that you have the best possible experience designed for the features on your Nokia N900 device. Nokia realises this news may be a disappointment for some, rest assured that Nokia will continue to support the core Maemo software on your Nokia N900, as evidenced by the PR 1.2 update available today.
- Nokia will be the exclusive, global provider of Yahoo!'s maps and navigation services, integrating Ovi Maps across Yahoo! properties, branded as "powered by Ovi."
- Yahoo! will become the exclusive, global provider of Nokia's Ovi Mail and Ovi Chat services branded as "Ovi Mail / Ovi Chat powered by Yahoo!"
- Nokia and Yahoo! plan to work on ID federation between their services, beginning by making it easy for people to use their Ovi user IDs across select Yahoo! properties to easily access the online content and services they need.
Interesting development, which makes sense for all 3 services - Ovi Maps is currently the best mobile maps solution, but Ovi Mail and Chat sucks compared to Gmail, Hotmail or any chat solution.
